Before I went for the trip i was a littleskeptical and me being a one of the three non-chinese in the group I wasn’tsure what to expect. But once I got there, I got to know that not only thepeople were extremely nice but their food was exceptional as well. Visiting theschool was one of the best experiences I have had with kids as they were reallycurious as to which country I was from and how I looked different but it in theend everything turned out well and I got the experience of handling kids whichwas quite a challenge for me and now that I think of it, it must be a challenge for the teachers as well.It was asingle class with more than 30 kids. We played a few games and practicedenglish. Something I can get from this experience is that patience is reallyimportant role and not only that but perseverance in motivating others. Also inall activities teamwork is really important. Another unforgettable experiencewould be visiting the students house, the house we went to was Kingsley's andElsa’s ,these are the names they choose from the options we gave them and thiswas memorable because their grandmother made us feel at home in their house andthat reminded me of my grandmother. This just shows to cherish our loved onesand to be there for them where they need us because you never know what willhappen next. Visiting the earthquake area was quite devastating for me and tolearn that there were still bodies buried beneath the debri was saddening. Ithink this was an unforgettable experience that I would never forget.

The most unforgettable is the home visitwhich is on the hill with no electricity. All of us need to sit outside the house.I remembered we are told to ask the family that what did they feel after theearthquake while we thought it is too serious. Luckily, the Chinese governmenttreated the family well so that they can live more comfortably.

Although we didn’t give them a lot ofthings, but this activity can make them happy. I think it is enough involuntary service.

After the trip, I learnt that voluntary isnot helping them physically, but giving them love.

From 12-16 March 2018 Voluntary Servicetour in Sichuan organised by office of Student Success from Centennial Collegewith S.C.V.C College and Aba Teacher University, I am honoured and privilegedto be part of this trip,This was my first Volunteer Service trip and i reallylearnt a lot from it, During my stay i was very pleased to meet the studentsfrom the SCVC college although the language was a barrier,During my stay ilearned one most important thing although even if you cant understand thelanguage u can at least use the body language to understand each other, If uare willing to help there is always a way to do that without speaking as well. Onethe most unforgettable moment of the trip was teaching the students at primaryschool i was so touched and surprised that the students were so happy to see usand especially a Non-Chinese. I was very grateful that i could teach themEnglish songs and basic grammar although i couldn't understand their languagewe had a connection which made so happy that i could help even though we cantunderstand each other. We also went for home visit to see the children parentsand their homes. I was very touched by the way they had so much to give eventhough they didn't had much. It made me happy to see them settled in a new homeafter the tragic event of earthquake which was itself very sad.

Overall the trip was very meaningful and ilearned a lot from it.I would love to go again and help someone whoever are inneed. All in all, I would like to thank my college Mr Edwin and Dr Anna, thereceiving college and university for having us and all my group mates whohelped me with the translation. I will never forget this experience,Thank You!

  1. 10.                Bibi fatimah ( Sky)

It was one of the prestige platforms everoffered for me to opt for a service trip that one could always dream of, as theold saying goes: " There is more happiness in giving than recieving."was not just been heard but performed witnessingly.

The service trip left a profound effect onmy life with few components. First, I am returned with a self-enhanceperspective of happiness; second, I have actively served the less fortuneperson ; last but not least, I have been changed as a whole.

I have experienced myself to be virtuewhere I have somewhere touched the final end to be happy. Everyone hasdifferent recipes of happiness and servicing in Sichuan is one of it. In theexchange programme I was asked to service as a volunteer, but I was taken morecare by the Chengdu students who were my companion to Wenchuan. From theirfootprints I have changed my perspective of happiness that nor wealth or honoror fame is pertinent to happiness, yet through practice and pleasure and painis. To be virtue , it is of importance to find the purpose of life and whichwas demonstrated through the association trip to Sichuan.

I have actively serve the least fortuneperson, myself - Bibi fatimah. I have served myself fortunes by giving myselfthe chance to go Wenchuan and therefore, meet the people who has performedbravery through fire and storms and yet they stood as one and never gave up intheir life. They are those who had no choice but to undergo earthquakes and thereclectant behaviour to never-ending fight for a better life is a good copingexample for me to tackle my problems in my life. As a less fortune of me whoalways been surrounded in a comfort and advanced zone has learnt the manner ofstrength of working under heafty pressure which was beyond thestandard.

The knowledge and teachings gained in thistrip last a lifetime effect in my life and it taught how to expect theunexpected uncertaincies with marriages of good coping mechanisms. I wouldheartily thank my school, my teachers, my faith , the acceptance of people whohas been undergone earthquakes and the schools associated to make this triphappen. Thank you so much.
